Court issues absconder warrant against convict
Amos was convicted on Jan. 6, for armed robbery alongside Ismail Afolabi.
Justice Olukayode Adeniyi of an FCT High Court, Maitama, on Thursday issued an absconder warrant against a convict, Isaiah Amos.
Amos was convicted on Jan. 6, for armed robbery alongside Ismail Afolabi.
The police had earlier arraigned Umar Alkali, Isah Mohammed and Yahaya Hassan alongside Amos and Afolabi.
They were all docked on four counts of criminal conspiracy, trespass and armed robbery, contrary to Sections 298 and 352 of the Penal Code.
Justice Adeniyi had on Jan. discharged Alkali, Mohammed and Hassan because the prosecution failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Justice Adeniyi held that the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Donatus Abah, had proven his case beyond reasonable doubt against Amos and Afolabi.
Adeniyi, while delivering his judgment, noted that Amos was not in court.
He sentenced Amos six months for count one.
"Amos, is also hereby sentenced to five years imprisonment for counts two and four respectively, provided that counts two and four run concurrently.
"In this regard, the court declares Amos, wanted and upon his apprehension, shall be transferred to correctional custody."
In sentencing Afolabi, Justice Adeniyi held that the convict was remorseful and had not been absent from court.
"The court has heard the plea of Afolabi's father and wife.
"He is hereby sentenced to one year imprisonment on counts two and four of the charge and a fine of N50, 000 on each of the two charges.
"The term of imprisonment shall run concurrently while the number of days he already spent at the correctional centre be deducted," he held.
The police accused the convicts of robbing Abdulraham Salihu in Kuje,FCT, household items and valuables on Aug.1, 2017.
