Hong Kong completes temporary hospital for COVID-19 patients

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), on Wednesday completed the construction of a temporary hospital for the treatment 0f Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients.

The hospital was funded by the central government.

The North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Center, built next to another treatment facility at AsiaWorld-Expo, is capable of providing 136 wards and 816 negative pressure beds, which will greatly ease the pressure on the local public health system amid the Coronavirus epidemic.

The hospital covers a land area of 30,000 square meters and is comprised of six inpatient buildings, one medical centre, and other facilities.

Its design is in line with the local standards for a permanent structure.

The project represents the last of the altogether three central government support measures for Hong Kong to combat COVID-19.

The other two, a mass testing program and the AsiaWorld-Expo treatment facility, were completed in September and October 2020, respectively.
