Nasarawa Assembly passes Specialist Hospital Bill into 2nd Reading

Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed a Bill for a Law to Establish the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Akwanga, 2025 and other Matters Connected Therewith into second reading.
Dr Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the House, announced the passage of the bill into second reading during the House proceedings on Monday in Lafia.
The speaker said that the bill, if passed into law, would improve the health status as well as create jobs for the people.
He commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nassarawa for initiating the bill and assured of its passage into law.
The Speaker committed the bill to the House Committee on Health to work on and submit its report on July 28.
Mr Suleiman Azara, the Majority Leader of the House, while explaining the substance of the bill, urged his colleagues to support the bill to scale to second reading.
He said that the bill would tackle health challenges and create jobs for people in the area.
“Dalhatu Araf Specialist Lafia was taken over by the Federal Government, sometime last year, to become the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia.
“If DASH facilities are moved to Akwanga LGA, it will boost the health status of the people and create jobs for our youths,” he said.
Contributing, Mr Luka Zhekaba, the Minority Leader of the House and Mr Larry Ven-Bawa, the Chairman, House Committee on Health threw their weights behind the bill.
They said that the bill, if passed into law, would address the health challenges of the people in the area and that of others.
Azara, therefore, moved a motion for the bill to scale second reading and was seconded by Zhekaba.
The House unanimously passed the bill into second reading.
