The Anambra State Government says all newly diagnosed HIV-positive residents will now be enrolled into the state’s Health Insurance Agency to ensure easier access to free antiretroviral drugs and comprehensive care.
Dr Afam Obidike, the state’s Commissioner for Health, said this on Thursday in Awka during the 2025 World AIDS Day commemoration organised by the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency.
Obidike noted that HIV remained a major public health concern, adding that the government was intensifying awareness and strengthening interventions to curb its spread.
He advised residents to abstain from unprotected sex or use condoms, and encouraged them to visit any health facility or designated centres in the state for free HIV testing.
“Enrolling newly identified HIV-positive persons into the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency will enhance access to essential medication and care.
“The antiretroviral drugs are provided free of charge in the state, and adequate provisions have been made for testing, counselling, and the overall management of HIV.
“Gov. Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is committed to safeguarding the health of residents,” he added.
