Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation, Lagos State, has appealed to staff of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) for timely delivery of the Omi-Eko Project.

A statement on Tuesday in Lagos said the commissioner made the appeal when he undertook a working visit to LASWA, where he engaged management and staff on operational priorities and service delivery.

During the interaction, Osiyemi urged management to work as one team, promote unity and mutual respect, and remain committed to professionalism and innovation in service delivery.

“Collective effort and strategic thinking are essential for strengthening water transport operations in the state.

“The safety of commuters remain a top priority and so the staff are charged to uphold high safety standards across all waterways.

“The importance of teamwork is of essence in ensuring the timely delivery of the Omi-Eko Project, a key initiative aimed at expanding water transport infrastructure in Lagos State,” he said.

The commissioner commended LASWA staff for their dedication and reiterated the ministry’s commitment to a supportive and performance-driven work environment.

The Omi Eko Project is a €410 million Lagos State initiative to revolutionise water transport with electric ferries, modern jetties, and dredged routes.

It aims to ease congestion, reduce emissions, and create a sustainable, inclusive waterway system by 2030, involving partners like the French development agency.

The project will introduce over 70 hybrid electric ferries, upgrade terminals, develop new routes, and includes funding for informal operators, enhancing safety and integration for all Lagos residents.
