The Enugu State Chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has dismissed as false, rumours of the replacement of the party's governorship candidate in the state.

The LP state Publicity Secretary, Mr Ibuchukwu Ezike made the clarification in a statement issued in Enugu on Tuesday.

"Mr Chijioke Edeoga is the undisputable gubernatorial candidate of Labour Party in Enugu State," Ezike said.

He said that the clarification followed inquiries from concerned party members on the rumours that Edeoga had been replaced.

"Last week, we issued a press release where we clarified that the Mr Chijioke Edeoga is the gubernatorial flag bearer of the Labour Party in Enugu State.

"However, since three days ago or so, our numerous members and supporters have continued making calls to find out if Edeoga has actually been replaced as the Labour Party candidate.

"This followed stinking rumours making the rounds in the Coal City State that a certain politician has replaced Edeoga as the only and authentic flag bearer of our party," he said.

According to him, those spreading the rumour are afraid of the momentous spread of the LP and its acceptance by the electorate in the state.
