Dr Ikechuku Ukweh, the Founder, Hogis Foundation, a Calabar-based NGO, has reiterated the commitment of the body to promote boy-child education and empowerment.

Ukweh made the expression at a strategic conference organised for heads of secondary schools in Calabar on Friday.

He said that the foundation had provided different empowerment supports to no fewer than 300 boys since its inception.

The founder further stated that the NGO was interested in providing education, mentorship, health support, and life opportunities for boys.

“The essence is to enable them to reach their full potential, and to imbibe the core values of integrity, respect, empathy, excellence and service,” he said.

Speaking at the conference with the theme: “Strategic Partners in Boy-Child Development: A New Era of Collaboration” Ukweh said that the foundation was a response to society’s one-sided compassion.

“So our targets are vulnerable boys between the ages 10 and 19, especially those roaming the streets, and those that are out of school.

“Our areas of intervention include educational scholarship, vocational and technical training, entrepreneurship, and health screening among others.

“Our foundation’s vision is to create a world where every boy-child grows into a responsible, healthy and empowered man who contributes positively to the society,” he said.

He said that the foundation worked in partnership with religious organisations, government agencies, sports clubs, schools, corporate bodies, among others.
