A group known as Ndi Na Asu Bia Socio-Cultural Organisation (NNABSCO), has called on the South-East Legislators at the National Assembly to work toward the realisation of Anioma state.
Chief Chikeobi Agada, Patron, NNABSCO, made the call in a statement issued on Wednesday in Asaba.
He said the call had become necessary following a recent successful solidarity rally held in Asaba, the Delta capital city, in support of the Anioma state creation and its zoning to the South-East geo-political zone.
He recalled that a coalition of Anioma People comprising the nine LGAs in the Delta North Senatorial District, a week ago, embarked on solidarity rally in favour of the state creation.
According to Agada, Anioma youths, men and women in collaboration with the Igbanke and other Anioma, Ika-speaking people in Edo endorsed the Anioma state creation and its zoning to the South-East.
“The people called on President Bola Tinubu and Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta to use their good offices to ensure the success of the bill”.
Agada, who is from South-East, described Anioma state creation as a pathway to reclaiming all lost Igbo territories.
He said that in spite of some disappointments and dissenting voices, here and there, the process was still on cause.
He appealed to the South-East leaders to work toward the success of the bill to ensure the creation of the state of Anioma.
Agada said: “The Ohaneze Ndigbo has endorsed Anioma state, I give them kudos and we are very grateful to them.
“We are pleading with South-East Legislators, to see reasons to work for the success of the proposed Anioma State Creation bill.
“Everybody should forget about personal interest and look at the overall interest of the Igbo people and create Anioma state as a first step towards bringing back our people who are marooned to other zones.
“We are appealing to the South-East legislators because at the moment, the bill is at the caucus stage where considerations and votes of the lawmakers matter a lot on which among the proposed states before the National Assembly should be approved.
“We know that the governors have influence over their states and the legislators, that is when the bill comes to the concurrent but for now, it is in the hands of the South-East legislators to see to the success of this great bill,” he said.
