Prof. Adedayo Faduyile, a former President, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), has declared his intention to contest for the seat of senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly.
Supreme news reports that the seat became vacant following the appointment of Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim as an ambassadorial-designate by President Bola Tinubu.
Supreme news reports that INEC was yet to announce the date of a by-election for the seat, formerly occupied by Ibrahim, while the winner would complete the term of the senator.
This is contained in a statement signed and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Okitipupa by Faduyile, a specialist in Pathology and Forensic Medicine.
Faduyile, also the former Special Adviser on Health to Ondo State Government, said his aspiration was already known to All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in his Ikoya ward, Okitipupa Local Government Area, and Akure, the state capital.
According to the APC stalwart, this decision is taken with a deep sense of responsibility and humility after wider consultations with political pillars and other stakeholders across the state.
“My aspiration at the defining moment, is to safeguard the political strength of the state, sustain the great developmental momentum under Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa and serve as an outstanding voice in the red chamber,” he said.
Faduyile, currently the Chairman, Governing Council and Pro- chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Kontagora in Niger State, said he possessed the unique blend of grassroots connection.
He also said that he possessed high level diplomatic experience required to shoulder the task ahead.
“I recall that while serving as NMA president, I successfully engaged with the Presidency and National Assembly to influence critical health legislature.
“This shows that I am not only a candidate of ideas but a leader who understands how to navigate the legislative process to secure impactful policies for the good of the people.
“Filling the vacuum left by the indefatigable Sen. Ibrahim requires a candidate who is a unifying force with an indisputable respect that cuts across all shades of the political, traditional and professional lines,” Faduyile said.
The professor sought the support of the APC leaders, and urged them to deploy their influence and political structure in his favour.
He implored the APC leaders to choose the path of competence, stability, national appeal, legislative effectiveness and continuity for the benefit of Ondo State citizens, and Nigerians.
“I have always been a party loyalist, builder and unifier, and understand clearly the local as well as national challenges to translate the citizens needs into law.
“If given the opportunity to fly the APC flag and win the by-election, I will be a servant leader who will serve with purpose, diligence, humility and doggedness.
“I will serve with clarity of vision and hit the running from day one of resuming at the red chamber for the great assignment,” Faduyile added.
