A probe has been opened into the main suspect in October’s Islamist terrorist attack in Nice, France, which left three people dead.

Anti-terrorism prosecutors said on Monday that they will be investigating the 21-year-old Tunisian suspect in connection with possible charges for murder with terrorist intent and membership in a terrorist organization.

Police have taken testimony from the subject, who remains in detention. They were unable to interrogate him for weeks after the Oct. 30, murders because he was shot during the incident and was hospitalised with severe injuries.

He then tested positive for the Coronavirus, after which he got transferred to a Paris clinic.

Prosecutors made no comment about his health, but it can be assumed that it is improving if they are progressing with their probes.

Three people were killed brutally with a knife in a nice church in the October attack. The suspect had entered France after first arriving in Europe via Italy.

Prosecutors said they found data that could be ties to the Islamic State militia group on his phone.

In one audio file, he refers to France as a country of unbelievers.
