Spotify unveils ‘SongDNA’ feature to deepen music discovery

Update: 2026-03-24 15:47 GMT

Spotify has introduced ‘SongDNA’, a new beta feature designed to deepen music discovery by revealing the creative connections behind songs.

Jacqueline Ankner, Spotify’s Head of Songwriter and Publisher Partnerships, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.

Supreme news reports that SongDNA is integrated into the ‘Now Playing View’ on the Spotify mobile app, offering users an interactive way to explore collaborators, influences and the stories behind tracks.

Ankner said the feature allows premium users globally to tap into a SongDNA card while listening to supported songs to uncover details about writers, producers and other contributors.

She added that users could also discover samples, interpolations and covers linked to a track while navigating connections between artistes and collaborators across genres and eras.

“By simply tapping the SongDNA card, listeners can explore the intricate network of people and creative influences that shape the music they love,” she said.

She noted that the feature was developed to spotlight the often unseen contributors behind songs, while enhancing fans’ understanding of how music is created.

She added that the data powering SongDNA comes from a combination of information provided by artistes and their teams, alongside community-sourced contributions.

According to her, eligible artistes and label teams will be able to review and manage their SongDNA information through ‘Spotify for Artistes’, thereby ensuring accurate representation of their work.

“SongDNA is designed to help fans easily explore the people and influences behind the music they love.

“By bringing collaborators, samples and covers together in one place, we are making it easier for fans to discover new music while giving creators meaningful recognition,” she said.

She further explained that SongDNA complements existing features, thereby transforming tracks into immersive and exploratory experiences for listeners.

Ankner said the feature is currently rolling out in beta to premium users on iOS and Android devices and will be made available to all premium users globally in April.
