Wave FM holds Season 21 of Walk for Safety, Walk for Security
Wave FM makes effort to hold "Walk for Security, Walk for Safety". In this particular edition, it talks about food security.
More than 2000 participants have marched in Port Harcourt during Wave 91.7FM Season 21 Walk for Safety/Walk for Security with the theme, Walk for Food Security.
Speaking after the walk, the General Manager of your-everything-on-play station, Rex Igiri, said the cause of food insecurity was the lack of political will and various challenges faced in the agricultural sector.
"Today we decided to walk for food security. Of course, you know what the market women and our farmers are going through. You can go to the market with your money, but you will not be able to buy sufficient things. You see how our farms have been ravaged, and it looks like there is no political will to deal with the matter. And that is why food is scarce. Today, there are so many factors or forces that are working against food security, and climate change is one of them. Insecurity is the other. Low budgetary allocation is the other one; are we talking about a lack of mechanization? Irrespective of the fact that we have over 84 million hectares of arable land in this country, we cannot find food to eat. The question is, "Who did this thing?"
Also, the State Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Rivers State Command, Salisu Galadunci, represented by Deputy Corps Commander, Operations, Chukwuma Mbaegbu, said the Corps was ready to make sure all roads were safe for the movement of food in the country.
"We keep our policies, and that is why we are commending and thanking immensely the management and the staff of Wave FM for making this effort, Walk for Security, Walk for Safety. For this particular edition, it is talking about food security. We at FRSC are always there. Food security, food production, when it is produced, it should be made available to required consumers. Road safety men are there to make sure that the food produced gets to the desired consumers.
In a remark, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Chairman, Abulrasheed Bawa, and the Zonal Commander, Port Harcourt, Nwannneka Nwokike, urged everyone to join in the fight against insecurity.
They were represented by the EFCC Head, Public Affairs Department of the Port Harcourt Zonal Command, Akpos Mezeh-Ekisowei.
To tell you today that this walk is not only for food, but for security and to wipe out corruption. I am here to tell you that the EFCC is focused and committed in this fight against corruption, and I am calling on you this morning to join us both in voice and action. When you see something that is corrupt, don't hesitate to say something. Join the EFCC in the fight against corruption; and at the end, we will all smile, knowing that this nation is blessed".
On his part, the CS Narcotics, Suleiman Ilyan, who represented the State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Ahmed Mamuda, said the agency was poised to join the station to stem illegal drug taking and dealing in Rivers State.
"This is the kind of media enlightenment we are proud to be associated with because, in this kind of walk, we sensitize the public on the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking in our society. So, it's a welcome development. We need more of these kinds of enlightenment programmes. Walk for Safety/Walk for Security, in fact with us everybody is a stakeholder when it comes to drug abuse and trafficking. We are no exception. At the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, we are on top, and we are trying our best to stem the tide of drug abuse".
Our correspondent reports that the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State, Tonye Cole also joined the walk as part of curbing food insecurity in the State.
