Taskforce denies Lagos land-grabbing allegations

The Lagos State Taskforce, Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, has denied involvement in alleged land grabbing, describing a viral video as misleading and inaccurate.

Spokesperson, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, on Friday refuted claims in an online video accusing officials of aiding a disputed property takeover.

He said officers were deployed solely to maintain order amid an ownership dispute between two parties.

Gbadeyan noted the matter is before a court, with an order directing parties to maintain the status quo pending determination.

“One party violated the order by forcefully taking over the site with armed thugs, escalating tensions.

“Taskforce intervention followed petitions to government and police after peaceful resolution efforts failed.

“Our personnel ensured peace, protected lives and property, and enforced the rule of law, without engaging in land grabbing or misconduct,” he said.

He said the video showed no assault, noting individuals at the scene freely recorded events.

According to Gbadeyan, normalcy has been restored while parties await the court’s ruling.

He criticised the reporter for lacking due diligence, accusing him of publishing unverified claims that misrepresented a lawful operation.

Reaffirming its mandate under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018, he urged the public to disregard the video.

He reiterated the agency’s commitment to enforcing the law without fear or favour and maintaining public order.
