Police nab man for allegedly detaining, starving wife for year

The police in Yobe confirmed on Thursday the arrest of a man, Ibrahim Yunusa, for allegedly restraining and starving his wife, Sadiya, for one year.
The command's spokesman, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, made this known in an interview in Damaturu.
He said the arrest followed a warrant issued by a senior magistrates' court sitting in Nguru, authorizing the divisional police officer in the area to arrest and detain Yunusa.
Abdulkarim alleged that the suspect detained Sadiya in his Nguru residence, depriving her of food, proper medical care, and access to family.
"We will soon speak with the victim, who is currently on admission at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano.
"The suspect will be handed over to the court as requested," he said.
NAN reports that a pale-looking Sadiya'spicture went viral on Thursday, sending shock waves to residents of the state.
There have been calls by several individuals for the police and the state government to investigate the matter.
