Ex-convict in police net over alleged attempted robbery

Operatives of the Police Command in Lagos State have apprehended an ex-convict, 28, over attempted robbery of motorists while in traffic.

The command’s spoksperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.

He said that patrol officers of the Ketu Division apprehended the suspect on Tuesday at 1:30 a.m.

“The suspect, who was armed with two knives, was apprehended while attempting to rob a male motorist on Mile 12 Bridge.

“His swift arrest was made possible by the timely intervention of the patrol team.

“One other suspect involved in the attempted robbery is currently at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him,” he said.

Hundeyin said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was released from prison three months earlier for the same crime.

According to him, the suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue.

Hundeyin said that the suspect would be arraigned once investigations are concluded.

The spokesman said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Olohundare Jimoh, applauded the vigilance and professionalism of the Ketu Division officers.

“CP Jimoh reiterates the command’s firm stance against all forms of criminality, especially traffic robbery, and reassures Lagosians of the readiness of the police to clamp down on those who threaten the safety of residents

“The CP further urges members of the public to remain alert and cooperate with the police by reporting any suspicious movements or individual, ” the Hundeyin said.
