Mrs Aisha Pandor, Chief Executive Officer, SweepSouth, said in a statement in Lagos on Wednesday that one of the biggest obstacles that often stood in the way of people finding employment was lack of awareness.

Pandor said that essentially, unemployed tradesmen, artisans and workers were unable to easily find or learn about employment opportunities where their skills were needed, largely relying on word-of-mouth or references.

She said that SweepSouth aimed to tackle this challenge by directly connecting job seekers with those who require their services.

According to her, with unemployment at an all-time high in Nigeria, it has never been more important than it is now to connect the country's unemployed and underemployed with the right work opportunities.

She said that it would empower them to provide the best for themselves and their families.

She noted that unemployment in the country was being exacerbated by the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

''According to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics, 33.3 per cent of the country's population were unemployed in the fourth quarter of 2020,'' she said in a statement.

According to her, the simple fact is that you can take advantage of 100 per cent of the opportunities that you are exposed to.

Pandor said, "Technology is one of the most powerful enablers of connectivity to leverage on to ensure that home service providers are able to connect with as many employment opportunities in the most convenient way.''

She said that with the tech platform SweepSouth Connect, founded in 2014 and launched in Nigeria on October 2021, domestic workers, artisans and repair service providers, would be able to easily find dignified work.

She said that most importantly, the platform was allowing domestic workers to earn higher than market rates while giving them the power to choose who to work with, where, and for how much.

According to her, it is an opportunity that puts control back into the hands of a group that is often exploited and underpaid.

Pandor said that SweepSouth's main objective was to create a platform that could demonstrably improve the lives of both customers and home service providers such as domestic workers, particularly as the pandemic has had a significant impact on them.

According to her, employment has such a huge impact, not only on our financial status but also on our mental health, self-esteem, and overall quality of life.

Supreme reports that SweepSouth Nigeria enables home service providers to connect with prospective clients looking for home cleaning services and more, through a simple and easy to use mobile app.

It also provides clients with a list of vetted and trustworthy candidates and payment is made on the platform.
