An armed person broke into a branch of the Bank of Georgia in Kvareli, a city in Georgia’s Eastern Kakheti region, the Interior Ministry said on Thursday.
The minister added that the police have cordoned off the area.
“According to preliminary information, an armed person broke into the branch of the Bank of Georgia.
“As soon as the report on the attack was received, the police officers cordoned off the area around the scene immediately.
“Currently, the law enforcers mobilised on the spot are taking all necessary and urgent measures, while investigative and operative activities are underway,’’ the ministry said.
According to the Rustavi 2 broadcaster, the armed man has possibly taken up to 15 hostages and demands 500,000 lari ($160,000).
