10 MOST FAMOUS RIVERS STATE ENTERTAINERS

Rivers State has achieved tremendously in entertainment right from the inception of this state. Just as Lagos State represent the entire Western part of Nigeria in entertainment, Rivers State does same to Southern part. While Fela Kuti was pioneering Fuji music, our own Jim Rex Lawson was championing High Life music, so it didn’t start today. In this article Supreme magazine brings you ten (10) most famous Rivers indigenous entertainers who have gained applauds and ovation across the nation. The list in no particular order of achievements are listed alphabetically as follows:

DANIEL WILSON

It’s more than impossible to list Reggae legends in Nigeria without mentioning our own Daniel Wilson a.k.a Mr. Ragamuffin. He is one of the most notable in this genre of music.

Daniel Wilson took over the music scene in the 90’s when he dazzled everyone with hits like Mr. Ragamuffin and Original Bad Boy. The legend married to Yetunde is blessed with 3 lovely kids, Graham, Gilbert and Danielle.

 

DUNCAN MIGHTY

Since 2008 when Duncan Mighty released his first album he has remained at the top of his game, representing Rivers State in the world through music, this has earned him the name Port Harcourt first son. Wene Mighty was nominated thrice in the 6th edition of NEA Awards.

In 2012 he broke more grounds by earning an international collaboration with reggae icon, Shaggy. The Ikwerrian recently tied the knot with his longtime lover, Vivien.

 

HILDA DOKUBO

AMAA Award winner Hilda Dokubo is a female colossus in Nigeria’s movie industry. The Kalabari born screen goddess first movie was Evil Passion during her youth service in 1992.

Hilda Dokubo who served as Special Adviser on Youths Affairs under former Governor Dr. Peter Odili of Rivers State is currently one of Niger Delta’s most passionate Girl Child Right Activist.

 

IBINABO FIBERESIMA

Ibinabo Fiberesima needs no introduction to lovers and Followers of Nigerian movie industry. The renowned actress and former beauty queen who hail from the ancient town of Okrika has paid huge dues in the entertainment industry and has remained relevant ever since.

Ibinabo who is born of an Irish mother is also a movie producer and former club owner. She has also been President of Actor Guild of Nigeria for several years.

Trivia: Ibinabo Fiberesima is the first Nigerian Actress to wear a bikini in a movie.

 

JOSEPH YOBO

Joseph Yobo until his retirement was Super Eagles captain, and he is Nigeria’s record appearance holder. The dogged defender, an indigene of Ogoni in Rivers State played for several big clubs in Europe including Everton FC, Fenebarche FC, Tenerife, Norwich City and Standard Liege.

He is married to former MBGN Adaeze Igwe and has a son, Joey Yobo. The couple was conferred with chieftaincy titles of Mene Aborlo 1 and Waamene Aborlo 1 respectively of Ogoniland by King G.N.K Gininwa of Ogoni Kingdom on Saturday, 28 May 2016. This was a day after his testimonial match marking his exit from active football which was organized by the Rivers State Government on Friday, 27 May 2016.

 

JULIUS AGWU

Ace comedian and one of Nigeria’s biggest comedy exports, Julius is a veteran and mentor too many in his field today. The Choba born genius started acting and entertainment as far back as his secondary school and University days.

He is the host of rave making comedy show, Crack Ya Ribs which he started in 2005. This show has since been held in Europe, United State of America and has been well attended by great personalities.

It’s worthy of note that Julius out of diverse creativity started a music genre in Nigeria called Musicomedy.

 

MONALISA CHINDA

The beautiful screen diva, Monalisa Chinda has grown from grace to GRACE since starring in her debut movie, Pregnant Virgin in 1996. She was named queen of Port Harcourt Carnival in 2011 same year she was named face of Vita500, a Korean energy drink.

Her eminence in the industry has also seen her become an ambassador of Nigeria’s indigenous telecommunication company, Glo.

 

MUMA GEE

Gift Iyumame Eke popularly known as Muma Gee is a singer-songwriter, actress and more. She is known across the nation and globe for her soothing voice and rich African costumes.

She came into limelight in 2006 through her song “Kade”, which became the title track of her first official album. The single’s accompanying music video received five nominations, including two from the AMEN Awards (Best Picture and Best Costume) and one each from the Nigerian Music Video Awards, the Headies Awards, and the Sound City Music Video Awards.

As an actress she has starred in Nollywood’s movie Last Dance in 2006, Solid Affection 2008, Secret Code and The Code in 2011.

 

SAM DEDE

Sam Dede is one of the most revered Actor in Nigeria. The actor who won Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2005 is popularly known for his role in movies like Igodo, Isakaba, Ijele and more.

The doctorate degree holder who lectures in the Theatre and Art Department of University of Port Harcourt was former Director General of the Rivers State Tourism Development Agency.

 

TONTO DIKEH

Nollywood’s bad girl Tonto Dikeh is one of Nigeria’s most popular actresses. She hails from the Ikwerre part of Rivers State. Aside her controversial stories she has overtime gained applause for her philanthropy.

The graduate of Rivers State University is a mother of one.

Trivia: Tonto Dikeh is a graduate of Petroleum Engineering.
