No fewer than 16 persons tested positive for the coronavirus in the latest round of testing at Premier League clubs, by far the highest since the season began.
The league said in a statement that the positive cases came from 1,207 tests and all players or club staff affected will self-isolate for a period of 10 days.
Names were however, not released.
The previous highest figure was 10, in the week of Sept. 21-27.
Global COVID-19 cases topped 55 million on Tuesday, according to the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
